Abstract
Objective : In this study, we investigated the antioxidative capacity of water extract from Bansi (Diospyroskaki.CBS),seedlesspersimmonproducedinCheongdo.

Methods : Total polyphenol and flavonoid contents in CBS were determined by spectrophotometric assay with tannic acid and rutin, as standards. Also DPPH, ABTS, SOD-like scavenging activity, hydroxyl scavenging capacity and reducing power of CBS according to the concentration (0.1~5 mg/ml) were measured invitro.

Results : The polyphenol and flavonoid contents of CBS were 23.27¡¾0.84 mg/TAEg and 19.7¡¾0.32 mg/REg respectively. The antioxidant effect of CBS concentrations (5, 1, 0.5, 0.1 mg/ml) on various antioxidative markers (DPPH, SOD-like, hydroxyl radical scavenging activity, ABTS and reducing power) increased in dose-dependent manners, respectively. Then, DPPH and SOD-like scavenging activities in CBS-treated group (1 and 5 mg/ml) were detected more than 70% compared to those of positive control (BHA)-treated group. In particular, ABTS and reducing power activity in the CBS high dose-treated group (5 mg/ml) significantly increased compared to those of positive control (BHA)-treated group.
Conclusion: These results suggest that the Cheongdo Bansi, could be used as a natural antioxidant for functional food and industrial products.
